South Dakota Film Festival: Submissions Up, Deadline Extended
ABERDEEN, S.D. – Submissions for the South Dakota Film Festival are already nearly double what they were last year, but festival producers are still hoping for more. That’s why the South Dakota Film Festival (SDFF) has extended its submission deadline July 16 to Aug. 8.
Last year, the Aberdeen-based festival screened 30 films from across the globe. The Festival already has more than 50 films on tap this year.
“We want to keep getting the word out that the festival wants films – innovative, creative, well-made films. So we are giving filmmakers a few extra weeks to get them here,” said Tom Black, co-producer of SDFF. The extended call for submissions includes all films submitted in the regional, national, and international levels. The festival screens films in three categories: narrative, documentary, and animation. The categories include both short and feature-length films.
This is the first year SDFF has partnered with Withoutabox. Withoutabox aggressively markets festivals directly to filmmakers, increasing SDFF’s exposure to the industry.
This is the Festival’s fourth year. The Festival featured Academy Award winner Kevin Costner last year and drew about 1,000 festival attendees. “In a few short years, the South Dakota Film Festival has turned into a very successful event. I fully anticipate the Festival will successfully continue to grow in 2010,” said Melissa Miller, Director of the Office of Tourism.
Aside from the screenings, the festival will include a tech expo and educational seminars featuring camera and lighting techniques, music composing, and screenwriting.
This year’s festival is set for Sept. 10-12 in Aberdeen.
More information about the submission process, rules and guidelines, and the festival can be found at www.southdakotafilmfest.org . For the latest news, extension dates, and special guest announcements follow the South Dakota Film Festival on Twitter @SDFilmFest.
