Recent projects taking place in the South Dakota Film Office

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Film Office has seen many new changes in the last few months. Below is an update on some of the recent projects.

• There is a new face in the South Dakota Film Office; Lesa Jarding began her role as Film & Media Relations Representative for the South Dakota Office of Tourism on January 24. Prior to joining the Office of Tourism, Jarding worked part-time at KELO-TV in Sioux Falls while attending South Dakota State University in Brookings.

• Lesa Jarding and Wanda Romkema, South Dakota Office of Tourism, attended the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI) Locations Trade Show in Santa Monica, Calif., April 12-14, 2007. While at the show, Jarding and Romkema met with producers, directors, production managers, writers, location managers and others interested in shooting on-location in South Dakota.

• Beginning in mid-April, Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films will be in the Black Hills to film parts of the all-new adventure film, “National Treasure: Book of Secrets” starring Nicolas Cage, Jon Voight, Helen Mirren, Harvey Keitel, Ed Harris, Diane Kruger and Justin Bartha. “National Treasure: Book of Secrets” is the sequel to the hit 2004 film.

The South Dakota Film Office, a component of the South Dakota Department of Tourism and State Development, was formed in 1989 to provide the following services:
• locate sites and/or resources to match script requirements and package those locations in a visual presentation
• act as a liaison between filmmakers and public/private domains to secure filming locations
• provide information on various production needs such as lodging, food services, labor, props, transportation and state laws and guidelines

The efforts of the South Dakota Film Office, a component of the South Dakota Department of Tourism and State Development, are part of Goal 1 of the 2010 initiative to double visitor spending in South Dakota. The Office of Tourism serves under the direction of Richard Benda, Secretary of the Department of Tourism and State Development.
