South Dakota Film Festival Wants Your Film (posted Jun 15, 2007)
An Invitation to filmmakers.

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Aberdeen Film Society in cooperation with the Aberdeen Community Theatre will host the first annual South Dakota Film Festival. The festival in Aberdeen will be held September 21-23, 2007.

The South Dakota Film Festival will begin accepting submissions on Monday, June 11, 2007 on a regional, national, and international level, with an emphasis on films made in, or by filmmakers from the Great Plains region (S.D., Minn., Iowa, Wyo. and Neb.). Regional consideration is only one of the many factors that will be accounted for in the final selection of films chosen for the South Dakota Film Festival.

“While we are trying to emphasize films from the Great Plains, this is not our primary focus,” said festival co-producer, Tom Black. “The goal of the South Dakota Film Festival is to screen the ‘best’ films submitted regardless of their geographic origin.”

The South Dakota Film Festival is seeking films in the following categories: narrative, documentary and animation. Films can be short or feature length.

“We want this festival to be a world-class event,” said Black. “We want to bring films to South Dakota that may otherwise not have an opportunity to be shown here.”

All selected films will be screened to the public during the three day festival. The festival will include a vendor expo, awards ceremony and after-glow party.

Additional information, including rules, film submission guidelines, ticket information and other accommodations may be obtained by calling Tom Black, (605) 216-6650 or by visiting www.southdakotafilmfest.org.
