Inaugural South Dakota Film Festival

PIERRE, S.D. – In a few months, organizers of the inaugural South Dakota Film Festival will be greeting filmmakers, the state film industry and visitors to Aberdeen for the South Dakota Film Festival. The festival will be held September 21-23, 2007.
"We are delighted to hold the first annual South Dakota Film Festival here in Aberdeen. The festival is the perfect venue for filmmakers to showcase their work,” said Nancy Krumm, executive director, Aberdeen Convention and Visitors Bureau. “The festival also gives us the opportunity to showcase the wonderful scenic resources we have here in the Aberdeen region and across the State. The unique outside perspective of filmmakers and fans alike strengthens the cultural opportunities for our community and region, and we look forward to welcoming them.”
The festival will be held at the historic Capitol Theatre in downtown Aberdeen. The festival will allow filmmakers and visitors to screen films, visit vendors at the trade expo and attend post-event parties throughout the three-day event.
“The networking opportunity a festival provides launches partnerships between production teams and inspires filmmakers to be more prolific,” said Tom Black, co-producer, South Dakota Film Festival. “South Dakota and the surrounding states have very talented filmmakers. I am busting with anticipation to see their work on the big screen.”
The festival will provide opportunities for filmmakers and audiences to experience, explore and develop the film industry of South Dakota through viewership and networking. The three-day festival will feature films made in South Dakota or by South Dakotans.
“The future of filming in South Dakota is exciting. The industry is ever-growing and ever-passionate about their trade,” said Lesa Jarding, film and media relations representative, South Dakota Office of Tourism. “The Film Office supports that by attending meetings and events and sharing news about activities going on across the state.”
