Cineposium International Conference 2007 (posted Aug 22, 2007)
Lesa Jarding, Film and Media Representative, will attend the two-day conference designed as the AFCI’s primary educational event.

PIERRE, S.D. – One representative from the South Dakota Film Office will attend the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI) Cineposium in Santa Fe, New Mexico, August 26-30, 2007.

Lesa Jarding, Film and Media Representative, will attend the two-day conference designed as the AFCI’s primary educational event.

“The film office is working hard to become a member of AFCI,” said Billie Jo Waara, director, South Dakota Office of Tourism. “We’re excited that Lesa is able to attend this conference and bring back some very helpful information and resources to our office.”

Participants at the 2007 Cineposium will learn about the pros and cons of offering incentives, ways to work productively with a publicist, and how the digital age will affect our areas. There will also be opportunities to learn how to encourage environmentally friendly film practices, how to overcome diversity, and how to handle challenging situations.

AFCI is the global professional organization whose members are film commissioners that assist film, television and video production throughout the world. It is a non-profit educational association whose members serve as city, county, state, regional, provincial or national film commissioners for their respective governmental jurisdictions.

The efforts of the South Dakota Film Office, a component of the South Dakota Department of Tourism and State Development, are part of Goal 1 of the 2010 initiative to double visitor spending in South Dakota. The Office of Tourism serves under the direction of Richard Benda, Secretary of the Department of Tourism and State Development.
